What happens next
The Preliminary Meeting will be held on Tuesday 10 August 2021. Invitations to this meeting have been sent to Interested Parties.
The Preliminary Meeting is held in public and concerns procedural matters only. It is not essential to attend the Preliminary Meeting. Whether or not an Interested Party chooses to attend the Preliminary Meeting, they will still be sent details of how to further take part in the Examination.
The Procedural Decision, setting the timetable for the Examination including deadlines for receipt of detailed Written Representations and for comments on the Relevant Representations made by other Interested Parties, will be made after the Preliminary Meeting and will be published on this project page. It will also be available on request from [email protected] and our helpline: 0303 444 5000.
If you are an Interested Party, either because you are one of the specific bodies cited in s102 of the Planning Act 2008 or have submitted a Relevant Representation, you will receive notifications about the Examination and a copy of the Secretary of State’s decision on the application once that is made.
If you have a legal interest in land affected by a Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project and:
- have not been identified by the Applicant; and
- did not register to become an Interested Party;
then you can make a request to the Examining Authority to become an Interested Party under s102A of the Planning Act 2008.

The Examining Authority (ExA) is providing all parties advance access to the intended list of the ExA’s First Written Questions (PDF, 539 KB) and requests for information (WQ1), in order to facilitate the conduct of the Examination. WQ1 will be issued formally after the close of the Preliminary Meeting, and as soon as the Examination starts. Any amendment will be limited to additional questions, in the form of an addendum.
Responses are due by Deadline 1, Tuesday 31 August 2021. Please do not submit any responses before the start of the Examination.
The Examining Authority’s (ExA’s) Rule 6 letter was published on Friday 9 July 2021, providing details of the Preliminary Meeting and the draft timetable for the examination of the application.

The Applicant has sent Section 56 notification to some additional persons with a legal interest in the land affected by the Proposed Development, on a later date of 19 May 2021. These persons are invited to make a Relevant Representation on the Application to the Secretary of State on a registration form no later than 11.59pm on 21 June 2021. This extended deadline to make a Relevant Representation is relevant only for persons who have received a Section 56 notification dated 19 May 2021.
Persons who received the Section 56 notification of the accepted Application on 28 April 2021, please note that your deadline to make a Relevant Representation on the Application remains unchanged, and must be received no later than 11.59pm on 10 June 2021.
